Certified Celebrant Training Retreat

The New Jersey Funeral Service Education Corporation (NJFSEC) will be hosting its biennial Certified Celebrant Training Retreat as a kick-off to the annual convention. Licensed funeral directors who complete the 2014 celebrant training will be eligible to receive a complimentary Full-Access convention badge.

This three-day intensive training retreat takes place from Sunday, September 28 through Tuesday, September 30 and will also be located at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City.

The retreat will focus on the value of the funeral and grant attendees with the keys to planning and designing a personalized service. Tips for comfortable public speaking and how to develop heightened listening skills during an arrangement conference are just a few topics to be covered. Approved for 1.7 A CEUs (17 hours) from the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice.

Attention Licensed Funeral Directors

All licensed funeral directors who complete the Certified Celebrant Training will receive a Full-Access badge (worth more than $250) for the 2014 Funeral Directors Convention and Expo. This badge provides access to all convention educational programs and up to three days of exhibit hall networking. Also included are continental breakfasts and exhibit hall lunches on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.

Sleeping room accommodations are not included in the complimentary badge, and would require an additional hotel reservation and fee. Convention Happy Hour Party tickets can be purchased separately in advance or at the door on the evening of the event.

Glenda S. Stansbury, CFSP, is a licensed funeral director and embalmer, former educator of special needs children, and holds a masterís degree in adult learning. A practicing celebrant herself, she is an adjunct professor at the University of Oklahoma, where she teaches funeral service communication and the psychology of grief. She serves on the curriculum committee for the American Board of Funeral Service Education and is dean of the In-Sight Institute of Funeral Celebrants.

To date, Manning and Stansbury have trained more than 2,300 certified celebrants. They have presented at the NFDA, FSAC, ICCFA and CANA conventions as well as many state funeral director conventions.
